The Animal Agriculture Alliance presented scholarships to several of the members of the current College Aggies Online group. Last November the Alliance announced the winners of the fall competition. Members of the University of Wisconsin, Madison Association of Women in Agriculture formed the top-scoring club with 229,820 total points, earning $5,000.00. Louisiana State University Les Voyageurs came in second place …
Millennial Staffers on the Hill
The first panel discussion of the 2014 Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit focused on millennial staffers on the hill. Moderating the discussion was Chandler Keys, The Keys Group. The panelists each spoke first with ideas for approaching elected officials effectively, especially since the first step is often with a millennial generation staffer like themselves. I selected a quote from each …
Cooking for Millennials
At the 2014 Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit we’ve heard a lot about food and what millennials like and what triggers their choices. However, I liked a comment by Jason Clay, World Wildlife Fund, who said we’ve got 7 billion food experts in the world. So really, regardless of what generation you’re in we all have opinions about food. An …
College Cafeteria Confidential
It might sound like something secret but a panel of college “Millennials” talked about “College Cafeteria Confidential: Millennials in the Lunch Line.” Our moderator was Rob Morasco, Sodexo USA. During his session I heard some terms like sustainability and food justice from the George Washington University students participating. I got some contrasting views from two of our panelists. First up …
Graphic Recording Going On
The photo albums we create at events become a pretty good graphical representation and documentation of what we see and hear. However, there are other ways to do it. Jim Nuttle is here at the Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit doing graphical recording. He’s writing and drawing on huge sheets of paper taped to the walls of the conference room. …
Moderating a Millennials Discussion
Moderating the 2014 Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit is Andy Vance, Feedstuffs. Andy has a millennial ribbon on his name tag but I’m not sure he’s really a Gen Y-er. Why is this important? The theme of this year’s conference is “Cracking the Millennial Code.” Our first panel discussion is a good example of why we have millennial ribbons. The …
Let’s #FeedThe9 Enough
Everyone should have a Sensible Table. We should make sure we have the facts when it comes to food and food security. We’ve got a couple billion more mouths to feed in coming years. So have you joined the movement? Congratulations and welcome to the ENOUGH movement! You’ve said “enough is enough.” Together, we can make a difference and solve …
Farm Broadcasters in Washington
The National Association of Farm Broadcasting is holding its annual Washington Watch program this week. Here’s the happy smiling group with our U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. These agricultural journalists get to spend a couple days hearing from various elected and appointed officials with plenty of time to conduct interviews. I’ve enjoyed all the programs I’ve attended over the …
Knuth Farms Spring Activities
Our friends at Knuth Farms got themselves ready for spring and shared this video. We did a little one and half minute video of spring activities on our farm to the sound of Tommy James and the Shondells we hope you would like and share with all your followers. Of course I will.
Canadian Farm Writers Going to the Island
This year the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation Annual Conference is going to be hosted by the Atlantic Canada Farm Writers’ Association. That means we’ll be on Prince Edward Island, known as “the Island.” The conference will take place October 2-5. In addition to having a great conference we’ll be helping celebrate the Prince Edward Island Sesquicentennial. Plans include a long …
