Apparently Thun, Switzerland didn’t look this serene last week as the rain was falling. Little did we know that there was serious flooding until getting an email from the IFAJ organizing committee that our hotels aren’t affected.
Are Publishers Ethical?
Ethics again. I interviewed David Markey by phone a few days ago at his office in Dublin, Ireland and now he’s here in the states. He just gave a workshop on “Can Publishers Afford To Be Ethical?” It’s clear that the whole issue is very “unclear.” However, in his publication group everything is run by his editors. He issues no mandate from on high. As we heard yesterday at the ARC meeting and again today, there’s just more and more pressure being put on ag media to run public relations material. I thought it was very interesting that although David will publish an advertorial he charges 25 percent more to the advertiser. Makes sense to me.
Complete ABM Agri Council Study To Be Released At AMS
This is going to be my last post until I’m in Milwaukee. That’s because I’m driving and will be most of tomorrow. So I thought I’d get in one last post about the Ag Media Summit. One of the 3 main organizing groups, the American Business Media Agri Council, will be presenting the complete results of their media usage study next Tuesday. We pointed you to it recently and the webcast just touched on the highlights. I’ll try to get more details to provide you next week.
Looking Forward To Switzerland
I just got a bunch of information from the people handling the upcoming International Federation of Agricultural Journalists meeting in Thun, Switzerland. Now if I could just find that sponsor to help cover the final expenses of the trip . . .
Do We Accept Advertising?
No.
Pretty simple answer. We love agrimarketing and want to make AgriMarketing Pros a very credible source of news and information about our profession. After all, that’s why we call ourselves agrimarketing professionals, right? Besides, don’t you get more than enough advertising from a gazillion other websites?
Writing Our Way To Switzerland
Actually I hope we can eat some good cheese and chocolate and sample some great wines!
I’ll be in some excellent company on my trip this fall to the IFAJ Congress in Thun, Switzerland. At this point I know that John Walter, editor, Agriculture Online/Successful Farming, Mike Wilson, editor, Farm Futures, Kelly Schwalbe, BCS Communications and Greg Lamp, editor, The Corn And Soybean Digest will also be going.
Ag Meeting Schedule
There are a number of places you can go to find a listing of meetings that are important to the ag industry and there’s a lot of them, especially when it comes to state associations and state fairs. A good place to find them is in AgriMarketing Magazine where you can search them by type and date.
Blogging To Switzerland!
Yes. This ag dude got selected to take a blogging trip to Switzerland. I wrote about IFAJ on a recent post. It’s the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists. They have their annual conference this year in Thun/Bern, Switzerland August 31 – September 4. I applied for one of the stipends they award to 3 U-S journalists and was informed yesterday …
Ahh, Swiss Agriculture
We all know that the world has become much smaller due to new technologies. Journalists of all kinds are travelling all over the world covering agricultural news and information. We’ve got friends outside the country right now on the Valmont World Tour for example. You may be familiar with a number of professional improvement groups here in the U-S like …
