  • AgriTalk Stalking

agritalk ace meetingWe attend so many of the same meetings as our good friends with AgriTalk that we often joke that we are stalking each other!

Here is what we like to call “the obligatory AgriTalk photo” from the 23rd annual Ethanol Conference and Trade Show in Kansas City yesterday, where AgriTalk host, the perpetually youthful Mike Adams (a granddaddy for the second time, he told me!), is interviewing American Coalition for Ethanol executive vice president Brian Jennings – and the perpetually helpful AgriTalk producer John Herath is taking my photo.

See you guys at the next stop!

    ACE Provides Communications Opportunities

ZimmCast 265For those of you not familiar with ACE you might think hardware but it’s actually an agricultural communications organization. The full name is Association for Communications Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences. I conducted a presentation on social media at their convention recently and recorded a conversation with their President, Steve Dodrill.

Steve works in Extension for Oregon State University. He got started with ACE because of the professional improvement and networking opportunities he found by attending their meetings. He believes that people have lost their connection to agriculture and there is a need to educate them about food production.

The Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) is an international association of communicators, educators and information technologists. It offers professional development and networking for individuals who extend knowledge about agriculture, natural resources and life and human sciences.

The program ends this week with “Pot O Gold” by Excellent Adventure from Music Alley.

    ACE Members Discuss Future

The members of the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences discussed the future of the organization during lunch today. I’m doing back to back sessions on social media this afternoon and will update this post when I find out if they accomplished anything.

We’re using the #ACE2010 hashtag on Twitter in case you want to see what’s being tweeted or add to the conversation.

From what I am being told, the discussion at lunch focused on the strengths and weaknesses and the effect of changing demographics. The organization will unveil a new website within the next month too.

ACE Is The Place For Excellent Ag Communications

ACE is the place if you’re involved in agricultural communications at a land grant university. I am now at the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences Annual Meeting. Now that is a mouthful.

I got here just in time for the welcoming reception. Speaking to the group is meeting committee member Terry Meisenbach, eXtension. So I got him to sit down for a few minutes to tell me more about this organization.

Terry says the program here has 5 keynote speakers who will speak at different times during the program as well as many breakout sessions of which I’m doing one on social media. You can find the program here (pdf). The organization does ongoing professional improvement programs including virtual workshops using Adobe Connect. He says the membership has been holding steady in the last couple years primarily due to budget challenges at many universities. We also talk about eXtension too.

You can listen to my interview with Terry here.
