Krenz Promoted At Bader Rutter

Chuck Zimmerman

Bader RutterI don’t have a picture of his happy face or I’d post it. He just sent me an email the other day about a newspaper article on how your cute little blog can get you fired. I wonder if he was trying to tell me something about AgWired? Anyway, I don’t intend to fire myself anytime soon. I’ve done that once already and it wasn’t fun!

First USDA Farm Bill Forum

Chuck Zimmerman

USDAWe first heard of these at the NAFB Washington Watch program. Sec. of Ag Johanns said he hoped to work with farm broadcasters on these “listening sessions.” It looks like RFD-TV gets to be first.

JOHANNS ANNOUNCES FIRST USDA FARM BILL FORUM AND TOPICS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., June 16, 2005-Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today announced the first Farm Bill Forum and the topics on which the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will be seeking input from America’s farmers, ranchers and rural residents regarding the development of the 2007 Farm Bill.

“The next farm bill will affect America’s entire agricultural community,” said Johanns. “That’s why I want to ask America’s farmers and ranchers how our farm policy is working and how we can make it better. I believe very strongly that they deserve a voice in this process.”

The first Farm Bill Forum will be held in Nashville, Tenn. on July 7 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. CDT at RFD-TV Northstar Studios. The public is invited to attend and participate in the forum, which will be broadcast live on RFD-TV. In addition to accommodating approximately 300 in the audience, the forum also will accept calls from across the nation.

Farmers National Company Says Land Value Strong

Chuck Zimmerman

Farmers National CompanyI knew I should have bought that piece of property to hunt on a long time ago! According to a release I just got from Farmers National Company land values have been good around the country.

Land Continues to Set Record Prices

Omaha, Nebraska…Farm and ranch real estate values remain very strong in 2005, according to a recent survey of professionals at Farmers National Company (FNC). Results from over 300 private treaty sales and auctions at FNC have been at or above the record sales prices we recorded in 2004. High quality farm ground has been in the highest demand by both investors and farmers. Sale prices of $3,500 to $5,000 per acre are common in the central and eastern cornbelt, with prices of $2,500 to $3,500 per acre in the western cornbelt.

Lee Vermeer, AFM, Vice President – Real Estate Operations, reports: “Demand for recreational properties with hunting and/or fishing also has continued. Properties with waterfowl hunting opportunities have seen the highest buyer activity, particularly if they are within one to two hours of a large metropolitan area.”

NAMA Helping Members Lead The Way

Chuck Zimmerman

NAMA Leading The WayThe National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) has prepared some chapter leader support materials that were just mailed out last week. The materials include a CD with images, forms and lots of information about the various chapter leadership positions. Also included is a booklet that contains a description of each leadership position.

NAMA president, Tom Smull, sends along a cover letter that says, “As you know, a focus area that we’re stressing is supporting chapters in development, growth and delivering value.” These materials are definitely a big help. I know I’ll use them in support of the Gateway chapter.

I’m still kind of wondering about the “Leading The Way” image. It looks like a bunch of rainbow colored people figures. At our Region II Leadership Workshop one participant said they looked like the guys on a “men’s room” sign. I’m sure they’re supposed to be people who have stepped up to the plate to lead others in this business we call agrimarketing.

NAMA Cultivating ConnectionsBesides these leadership materials NAMA also has a number of materials available to recruit new members. These are under the banner of the “Cultivating Connections” program and include flyers and brochures which are available from the NAMA office.
