Hello from Raleigh, NC where we’re about to kick off the Syngenta Media Day. To get things started I interviewed Gardner Hatch, Gibbs & Soell, to find out why we’re here.
Hearing From Monte Reese
Is there anyone who doesn’t know Monte Reese? The Beef Board’s Chief Operating Officer was on the program at this morning’s board meeting to give a report on the activities of the Checkoff.

Two of Beef Ambassadors attending the Cattle Industry Summer Conference are Melissa Green (left) and Amanda Nolz.
NCBA President Mike John
The President of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is Mike John, from Missouri. Mike took over the reigns in January at the annual convention. Here at the Summer Conference he said he was happy to hear about how beef demand has been good recently but knows that there’s a lot of work to do to continue to grow demand for his product.
Beefmobile Wrangler Tracey Orsburn
Tracey Orsburn is one of the Beefmobile Wranglers and is here at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference. She puts in a lot of miles travelling around the country and making sure producers better understand the Checkoff. Her vehicle is also a travelling billboard for beef.

The media room at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference is sponsored by Merial.
How To Enhance The Beef Brand
This morning at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference there are a series of industry Issues Forums taking place. One of them is titled, “Enhancing The Brand.” The brand referred to is beef. I think the consumer research that’s being done by organizations like NCBA with Checkoff funding is fascinating. What’s even more interesting is seeing how they put that research into action.
Beef Promotion Plans
The ZimmCast is coming to you this week from Reno, Nevada and the Cattle Industry Summer Conference. For your listening pleasure I interviewed the Chairman of the Beef Board, Jay O’Brien. Jay is a cattle producer from Texas.
Cross Country Event Blogging
After a week off, the ZimmCast is back. I am glad I got to travel coast to coast as part of a historic interstate convoy but it sure took up way more time each day than I imagined. I got a little behind in some things like posting here on AgWired and getting a new program for you last week.
Local Radio Interview
I’ve been a spokesperson for the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council on this cross country convoy trip this past 2 weeks. Media opportunities have arisen at various stops.
