Serious Thoughts from a Funny Guy
Damian Mason is a seriously funny guy. Chuck interviewed him twice last year – at the NAMA conference and then again at the O.H. Kruse event – but the first time I have seen him was over the weekend at the Southern Peanut Growers Conference, and I suspect it won’t be the last. He is making a name for himself …
Gators Revved up in Indianapolis
How about them Gators? They found me. Not sure how. I was kind of hard to spot. However, University of Florida ACT students did find me during the Ag Media Summit Famous Welcome Party. We did a little Gator Chomp and had a great conversation. That’s part of what AMS is all about. I took a few photos during the …
Record Crowd for Peanut Conference
Peanut growers are in attendance in record numbers at the Southern Peanut Growers Conference. This morning is the final part of the program with formal presentations. Then things get social with a golf tournament prior to this evening closing banquet. I’m leaving Cindy to finish things up on the SPGC Conference Blog while I go catch a flight to Indianapolis …
Southern Peanut Growers Blogging
Hello from Panama City Beach, FL. This is the location of the Southern Peanut Growers Conference. Cindy and I are on the scene. Things started out as usual with Mr. Peanut, Tyron Spearman, grilling PBJ’s (with grape jelly). There was also a make your own ice cream sundae bar. According to Mr. Peanut, a young man told him that the …

One of the highlights was an update from EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe on the proposed Waters of the United States rule. …

Farm Groups Dissatisfied with WOTUS Explanations
Despite increased efforts by Environmental Protection Agency officials to explain and defend the proposed Waters of the United States rule, farm groups continue to have concerns. The American Farm Bureau Federation this week sent Congress a comprehensive document that responds to inaccurate and misleading comments made about the rule by EPA acting assistant administrator for water Nancy Stoner in a …
Find the Iowa Corn Farmer at RAGBRAI
If I wasn’t getting on the agriblogging highway next week I’d like to be on RAGBRAI. Not going to happen this year. But we can enjoy the social media content that I’m sure will be coming. Iowa Corn has a unique promotion going on that’s tied in with the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa called Find the Farmer. …
Soy Checkoff Request for Referendum Results
USDA just announced the results of the request for referendum on the Soybean Research and Promotion Program. There were 355 request-for-referendum forms received, of which only 324 were valid, from Farm Service Agency offices. The 355 forms represent 0.06 percent of all eligible U.S. soybean farmers. That result falls short of the 10 percent needed to prompt a referendum. “These …
