Now we know why Rhea & Kaiser Marketing Communications really joined the Global Communications Network. To get to have meetings in places like Italy! Jim Haist was the lucky representative.
Global Communications Network (GCN) agencies recently gathered for their annual business meeting, this year at the home of partner agency espirit hb in Milan, Italy. Rhea & Kaiser Marketing Communications, a GCN member, was represented by Senior Vice President Jim Haist, who serves as the agency’s primary contact with GCN. The meeting included leaders from network members in Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and Poland.

Science Extends Shelf Life of Fresh Meat
A food science professor with the University of Manitoba says processors have dramatically increased the shelf life of fresh meat products using new sanitation compounds and procedures, tighter temperature controls, and new packaging materials.
The investigation and control of factors that cause spoilage in meat will be among the topics explored next month in Calgary when the Canadian Meat Council hosts a symposium on advanced methods in quality control of meat and meat products. Read More
Spafford With Hall of Fame Award
Last night I ran into Amber Spafford, Osborn & Barr Communications, who received this year’s Livestock Publications Council Hall of Fame Award.
Amber has had a leadership role in LPC for about 20 years and served as president in 1990. Very nice Amber and congratulations.
Reception Time
It’s time to do a little recepting here at the AMS. Starting now we have the BASF Media reception. Then it’s off to the Awards Celebrations Reception, combined AAEA and LPC. Then they have their awards dinners before getting back together for the Dessert Reception.
I’ll get back to you after enjoying a little reception time.
Ciao.
NASS Is Podcasting
I always learn a lot when I teach a workshop. Sometimes I think I learn as much as the people who are attending.
Here’s a good example. I learned that the National Agricultural Statistic Services has added podcasts to their website. NASS has contracted with the National Association of Farm Broadcasting to have them produce these audio reports.
Besides the audio podcasts NASS also has RSS feeds of their reports you can subscribe to.
AAEA President Blogs
I keep getting positive feedback from my agriblogging and farm podcasting workshop yesterday. For example, Dan Crummett, current President of AAEA, Rural Life, said he used an idea that came up in the session for a post he did yesterday on his blog.
I didn’t even know Dan had a blog. You can find “Dan Crummett’s Rural Life Thoughts” through the publication’s website.
Darts With boelte-hall
InfoExpo can be kind of relaxing when seminars are in progress. Here at the boelte-hall booth it was time to play darts.
The player is Joe Fuller, Camp Cooley Ranch. Also in the booth for boelte-hall are Don Norton and Terry Ward.
I’ll let you judge how well Joe did:

IFAJ 2009 Committee
After lunch today all the members of the IFAJ 2009 Committee got together in our white shirts sporting the Congress logo for a quick picture.
These are the people who are already working on things like farm tours, sponsorships, seminars, facilities and communications for the international event which will be held in conjunction with the Ag Media Summit.
We will have a website for the event announced soon and you can count on the fact that it will be a blog!
IFAJ Congress In Ft. Worth In 2009
At lunch today Greg Lamp (speaking), Corn and Soybean Digest, and Mike Wilson, Farm Futures, gave us a presentation on the 2009 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists Congress (IFAJ) which will be held in Ft. Worth, TX.
Greg and Mike are on the leadership team for IFAJ. They gave a short overview of how the IFAJ meeting will overlap the AMS that year. One of the things we’ll be trying to do is mentor each incoming foreign ag journalist.
Guess Whose Shoes
This could become a regular feature here on AgWired. Guess whose shoes these are.
Post your comment and give it your best shot. The first correct answer wins. Wins what? I’m not sure yet. Probably something from the AgWired prize stash.
This picture was taken this morning in the InfoExpo area.
