Dole, Order of Patrons of Husbandry founder Oliver Hudson Kelley, and ag chemist Justus von Liebig will be recognized for their monumental achievements in agriculture during the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, October 27, 2006.

Bob DoleA Kansas native with strong ties to his state, Senator Robert J. Dole’s career in public service reaches from World War II through the close of the last century. He is best known as a former Republican United States Senate Majority Leader and Senator from Kansas from 1969-1996, and for his long-standing service on the House and Senate committees on agriculture.

Oliver KelleyFollowing the end of the American Civil War, a former Minnesota farmer and official of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was called upon to bring together northern and southern farmers and to help improve Rural America. He was Oliver Hudson Kelley, and his idea was to co-found the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, a fraternal organization closely based on Masonic principles. He had two primary goals: unite the farmers of the North and South, and bring more modern agricultural practices to light.

Justus LiebigA German chemist, Justus von Liebig made major contributions to agricultural and biological chemistry, and worked on the organization of organic chemistry. He is known as the “Father of the fertilizer industry” for his work which led to several major discoveries in agriculture.
