I’ve been collecting news releases from various agricultural companies and organizations that are working to provide help to people impacted by Hurricane Katrina. There’s a lot and I think it shows how helpful Americans are, especially those involved in the food chain! There’s no way to post all of the various efforts but I’ll try to summarize what I have so far. I know there’s much more going on out there. Feel free to add to this post using the comment feature if you know of more.
NE Fair Farm Forums
The folks at the Brownfield Network have been working overtime to bring great radio to the web. I guess that makes it webradio? Anyway, you can see/hear some of their latest new stuff from the Nebraska State Fair. Use this link: Brownfield Farm Forums: Nebraska State Fair Their coverage was sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Growers Association and Nebraska Corn Board.
Satellite & Internet Ratings Coming This Fall
According to a post on MediaBuyerPlanner, Arbitron will be reporting satellite radio listening (Sirius and XM) beginning this fall. Next spring they’ll also begin to add a radio station’s internet feed audience to the station’s audience totals. This report comes from Mediaweek.
New Website Design For AgWeb.com
The folks at Farm Journal Media announced a whole new site design for AgWeb.com this week. I don’t have a “before” shot to compare it to but you can visit and see for yourself. Here’s what they say about why they changed it:
New Media Showing Biggest Growth In New Report
Thanks to an alert from Mediapace, who learned about it on Media Daily News, I learned of a new communications industry book you might want to look into. It’s the “Communications Industry Forecast – 2005-2009” by Veronis, Suhler, Stevenson, an investment banking firm that invests heavily in media companies.
Live Webcast of Indiana Crop Outlook
If you want to know the latest about the Indiana crop then you’ll want to be online August 12.
DTN Going Mobile
While people in some of the traditional media are still trying to hold on to the good old days DTN is working hard to transition to the future. I haven’t seen them publish a farmer media usage study and yet they’re moving forward. I used to work there so I know it’s not any easier for them to change than anyone else. They were the cutting edge of information delivery with the satellite-delivered weather, market and news data. But people need to be mobile. That was always one problem with the “old system.” You had to be there in front of the monitor to get it. Now you don’t!
Celebs Protesting Ag Subsidies
New on Adjab today is a short note about an upcoming advertising campaign by Oxfam America to try to impact agricultural subsidies. According to the article celebrities like Minnie Driver and others will be doused with chocolate, coffee and other ingredients. It’s supposed to be a magazine campaign. I couldn’t see any mention of it on the Oxfam America website so I’m not sure where the information comes from. Adam says in his post, “The campaign is spurred in part by advocacy group Oxfam America which urges places like the United States to stop presenting cheap product to world markets which makes it difficult for smaller countries to compete.” So there you have it. I’m sure many people would like to see Minnie Driver wearing chocolate.
The story comes from the International Herald Tribune.
