I don’t know if I’m going to get to interview all of the Indy car drivers this year but I’m getting close. Maybe by the end of this weekend.
One of several drivers at today’s ethanol pump promotion in Romeoville, IL was Tony Kanaan, Team 7-11. He had to be there since we were at a 7-11.

Hello from Chicago (Lisle to be exact). It’s a beautiful morning. The moon was still bright just before sunrise.
Here’s my next stop. I’m leaving shortly for Chicago and a weekend of activities helping to promote ethanol with the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council. It’s a race weekend and the last one of the season for the Indy Racing League. I’ll be following the activities of Jeff Simmons in particular as he competes in the #17 Team Ethanol Car for Rahal-Letterman Racing.
A new exhibit out here at the Farm Progress Show was put together in just the last 45 days by FlexFuel Motors.
The man who’s the inspiration and work horse behind it is Tad Whitten, Motor Sports Management, Inc. Besides having a variety of vehicles on display that utilize ethanol or biodiesel, he built a replica of the first ethanol filling station which was in Nebraska. As you can see in the picture he’s found pumps and other original equipment and even built the building as close to as possible to the original as he could.
It seems like the number 17 Team Ethanol Indy Car is all over the place. It’s here on display at the Farm Progress Show courtesy of the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council (EPIC). while it was raining this morning the media was nicely cooped up in the media tent. I’m sure this didn’t disappoint Monsanto since they had the first press conference. One of the their representatives I met was Steve Peterson, Monsanto business manager for their Processor Preferred program. Steve’s pictured here during an interview with WITY. In my interview with Steve he describes how this program has developed about 90 varieties of corn that are yielding up to 2 to 4 percent more ethanol per bushel than conventional hybrids. He says this helps corn growers get a premium for their crops.
The incoming 1st Vice President of the National Corn Growers Association is Ron Litterer, Greene, IA. I talked to Ron about the impact of using more and more corn for fuel and what his thoughts are on the issue of how that affects other uses of the commodity. Ron’s being interviewed here by Tom Steever of Brownfield Ag News.
The Iowa Corn Growers will be the title sponsor for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 next year at the new Iowa Speedway in Newton. Iowa Corn, Iowa Speedway, and the Indy Racing League made the announcement yesterday at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.
