On our panel this afternoon here at the FEMA convention was Joe Baitinger, FarmMarketiD.
Joe was here to talk about database marketing. He talked about the importance of developing your customer database and using it. Too often companies tend to collect data and let it sit unused. I like the way he called it a perishable commodity. What good is having thousands of prospective client contacts if you don’t use them. Joe talks about how important it is to know who your customers are in a very segmented industry.
I’ve got a very interesting interview this week with Kyle Russell, Director, Livestock Marketing, Case IH.
Case IH participated in an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help an Iowa family (The Kibe’s) who’s home was destroyed. They donated a new Case IH JX1100U tractor with a LX252 loader to the family.
The NAMA Agribusiness Forum is just around the corner (November 14-15) so I interviewed this year’s chairman, Jessica Lamker, Director of Member Development & Communications, CHS-Land O’Lakes Member Services.
The FFA Convention is off to a rocking start if you judge it by the theme song. The theme is Blue Jackets – Gold Standards.
I so love to blur the lines. Here’s a story from Certified Angus Beef that’s targeted to farm broadcasters. It comes as a story that’s written in 2 versions (30 sec and 60 sec) and a soundbite. Now that’s cool and I’ve helped Steve Suther and company get started “doing it themselves.”
The Buckeye Ag Radio Network (The BARN) is about to turn 1 year old so I interviewed one of the “Hired Hands,” Andy Vance to find out how it’s going. He and his wife and partner, Lindsay, have created a very nice farm media company that blends the old with the new. In other words, he’s a farm broadcaster who can still be heard on the air and online using new media tools like blogging and podcasting.
Here’s the lastest story from Paul McKellips, US Department of State, Public Affairs GO Team on assignment in Iraq. In this one he talks about investment banker Greg Amira who was an vice president for Morgan-Stanley in New York City. He was also an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. On the morning of September 11, 2001 he was working on the 73rd floor of World Trade Center Two when the first plane crashed into the number one tower.
Andrew McCrea is the new Chairman of the Missouri Beef Industry Council. This will be his 6th and last year on the board too. He’s a cattleman from northwest Missouri and an award winning farm broadcaster to boot.
I think the MBIC has some great new leadership.
