MBIC Board Is Meeting
Today I’m attending the board meeting of the Missouri Beef Industry Council. We’re meeting in Kansas City. Pictured here on the left is outgoing MBIC Chairman, David Dick who’s making a point to new Executive Director, John Kleiboeker.
AFT’s $10,000 Steward Award
I can’t imagine any farmer not wanting $10,000. Now being deserving of it, that’s another matter. All the farmers I know are good stewards of the land so maybe they should all be nominated.
Be a Corn Leader
The National Corn Growers Association is looking for a few good leaders. Do you think you’ve got the right stuff? Know someone who does?
2007 Ag Equipment Sales Forecast
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers has come out with its annual industry forecast for the United States and Canada. These are 2007 Retail Sales Predictions (in units vs. 2006). If you can’t read this chart very well then go to their website and you’ll find a complete summary of their report in the Industry Trends section.
WILOT Group Announced
It’s time once again for a new group to go through the WILOT program. That’s the National Association of Wheat Growers leadership program. They just announced the names of the people who will be taking part this year.
USDA Appointments
Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Johanns, was a busy man this week. Besides the Energy Conference in St. Louis he did a bunch of appointing.
Live Web ChickenCast
The “100% Chicken, Naturally.” folks, Sanderson Farms, will be taking part in a live webcast from the National Chicken Council annual meeting on Thursday. This sure seems like something that makes so much sense today that I don’t know why we don’t see more organizations or companies doing it. It’s a great way to reach the media that can’t attend, your customers who are interested and can’t attend and by recording and archiving it you can use elements of it in news releases, on your website, in your podcasts, newsletters and presentations. I’m guessing Sanderson Farms knows this and will be doing so.
Map Them Soybeans
Before we get to the story, here’s who’s in this picture: U.S. Senator Kit Bond explains the importance of the new Soybean Genome Mapping Facility, along with Dale R. Ludwig, MSA executive director/CEO; U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof; U.S. Senator Jim Talent; MU Chancellor Brady Deaton; Tom Payne, MU Vice Chancellor and Dean of College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; MU President Elson Floyd; and Henry Nguyen, Endowed Professor for Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council. Courtesy of Missouri Soybean Association. I resized the picture. It was bigger but you could see a couple of sets of closed eyes (not mentioning who). Kit, I wonder if you were going a little long.
Florida Fresh Tomatoes Available – Again
It looks like the advertising campaign the Florida Tomato Committee ran for field fresh Florida tomatoes was a successful one.
