- Although setting up disease protocols is extremely important, prevention management can be the best medicine with fresh cows. When fresh cows get sick, dairies start losing money. Veterinary service and treatment costs, lost milk production, increased culling rates and prolonged days open add up to thousands of dollars of lost profit.
