Pretty strange timing when you consider the energy legislation work going on in Washington, DC. Manmade Spring Rise On Missouri River Discussed On CornTalk

MCGA LogoIt’s time to save the Pallid Sturgeon on the Missouri River. At least that’s what it sounds like a bunch of concerned wildlife people want. This is moving pretty quick. This being an attempt to develop a man-made spring rise on the Missouri River. This could put an additional one to three feet of water on the river which would cause river bottom farm land flooding.

This is also the topic of CornTalk, the weekly program for the Missouri Corn Growers Association. In this week’s program I interview Bob Bacon, with the Coalition To Protect The Missouri River. Bob has serious concerns about how quickly this plan is moving and the impact it will have on Missouri farmers. He’s asking for people to get involved and make their concerns known. Missouri Corn Growers AssociationThe grand opening of Mid-Missouri Energy (MME) last Friday was a major milestone for the renewable fuels industry in Missouri. State and federal officials, as well as farmers, business leaders and curious onlookers, packed a massive tent to talk about the importance of the ethanol and the impact plants such as MME have on communities. In this week’s CornTalk, I’ve got interviews with Missouri Governor Matt Blunt and U. S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof. Both individuals ask the question, “Why are we continuing to look to the Mideast for our energy needs when we can look right here to the Midwest?”

Corn Grower Staff Learn More About Europe

In this week’s CornTalk, MCGA/MCMC CEO, Gary Marshall goes into more detail about the State Executive Staff Mission to Europe hosted by the U.S. Grains Council. He just returned from the trip, which included stops in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. Marshall discusses highlights of the trip relating to trade issues such as biotechnology, WTO negotiations, and the differences between Eastern and Western European nations.

CornTalk From Switzerland

In this week’s CornTalk, Cindy Zimmerman interviews Gary Marshall, CEO of the MCGA/MCMC, from Switzerland. Marshall is currently in Europe on a State Executive Staff Mission hosted by the U.S. Grains Council.

Thus far, the team has met with representatives in Belgium, The Netherlands and Poland. While in Brussels, the group spoke with EU Commission officials regarding the EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) and their negotiating priorities for agriculture. The team also met with feed manufacturers, meat processors and livestock producers in The Netherlands and Poland regarding the future outlook for changes in production patterns in the newly expanded EU-25.

According to Marshall, the meetings have been very helpful in understanding the trade policy and marketing issues we face in the newly expanded EU.
